How to have widgets on the sidebar expanded by default

Image
In the " Contempo " theme - like in some other themes - the expandable / collapsible widgets on the sidebar such as " Blog Archive " and " Labels " are usually collapsed when the page loads. You can, of course, expand each of them manually, but until you do, they are collapsed. If you - like me - don't like your sidebar widgets collapsed by default, please read on to find out how you can "uncollapse" them, that is, make them expanded by default. I did it in this blog because I prefer it this way.

How to reduce the height of the top image from the Contempo theme

Image
As promised, here is my experience in reducing the height of the image at the top of the page in the " Contempo " theme (Google Blogger). The problem : To me the image at the top of the page seemed to large. Besides, it happened to affect the position of the side bar on the left on larger screens where it is always visible. I decided to make it smaller. But ran into an issue, which I had to take care of, too.

Does Google like custom domain names of Blogger's blogs?

Image
I can't argue that it (he, she) doesn't. However, I have long suspected that a blog on Blogger would get higher positions in search if it keeps its original Blogger's subdomain name rather than a custom domain name. I don't have proof. I just have a few experiences that push me to believe so. And as I mentioned earlier , this is the reason I kept the original subdomain name for this blog's web address - https://2read4free.blogspot.com .

Contempo theme? Customized!

Image
As you have probably noticed, I managed to customize the blog's looks a little bit. I haven't sorted out the issues described in my previous posts but I made some changes to handle at least one of them. This wasn't a solution but a workaround which I can live with.

More issues with the Contempo theme

Image
In addition to the issue with the "Contempo" theme I described in my previous post , I've run into a few more. This certainly doesn't help the case and is pressuring me to dump the theme and go for something less troublesome. On the other hand, I really want to stay on this theme - maybe with a few tweaks - because I kind of like it and, moreover, it makes your blog look different from what you can usually see. Here is what I have issues with, too:

It's on

Image
I've been fighting with Blogger's themes and layouts for a couple of hours now. As I mentioned earlier , I chose to use the new " Contempo " theme and the default layout, almost untouched. I did it on my laptop where the resolution is 1366x768 . The side bar on the left always collapses on this resolution and the blog looks OK to me. However, when displayed on my larger monitor ( 1920x1080 ), it doesn't look OK. The side bar is expanded at all times. And it looks awful. The issue is that I have a disabled/hidden default gadget at the top of the side bar - "About Me".

What's happening?

Image
At this moment I am unemployed and have quite a lot of time to get things started. Using a new Blogger theme First of all, I decided to use one of Blogger's new themes -  just the first option in the " Contempo " line. I am a bit conservative, and I chose a traditional theme at first. Then I thought "What the heck" and went for the new stuff. Frankly, I am not quite used to it yet. About an hour has passed so far :). I feel like it is growing on me. However, if I find it inconvenient or impractical in one of these next few days, I may revert to a more usual theme. Along with making your blog look more up-to-date, which is on the plus side, it changes the way you may be used to working with the layout on the blog's dashboard, which is not on the plus side.

About that...

I've always wanted to start a blog in English. I already have a personal blog in my native language. At some point in the past it became popular. Literally overnight. People read my posts, comment on them, spam a little. And come back for more. And I like it. How about another one in English? There are more people speaking English than those speaking in my mother tongue. So more readers could be expected in a while. I am going to start it as a personal blog. Most personal blogs I have seen so far are not "attractive".
